Q Anxiety is simply "worry". One can worry about anything or anyone. One can worry about certain situations like flying in an airplane or driving across a bridge. Mothers or fathers can worry about their children. An adult child can worry about their elderly parents' health.
Worry - as a way of dealing with what life brings - tends to be a family "disorder". It's easy to find parents or grandparents who worried just like the patient does. This does not make Anxiety a genetic issue. Children initially learn everything from their parents Anxiety, as a disorder, can present in a number of ways (see "Presentation" button above). None of these coping techniques are adaptive - which simply means that they don't help - they may make matters worse. The creative ways that a person tries to keep themselves safe from these worries makes up the diagnostic category know as anxiety disorders.
