Scott enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He later served in the California Air National Guard, then Minnesota Air National Guard. Scott later served in the Minnesota Army National Guard where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader. Later he served as a Chaplain Candidate and served in Minnesota and then the California Army National Guard. He also served as a Chaplain Resident at Fresno Community Hospital, part of the Community Hospitals of Central California. Scott was Ordained at New Covenant Community Church in Fresno, California.
As a Chaplain, Scott was assigned to several Army units. He was deployed both to Afghanistan and Iraq. While deployed to Afghanistan he provided Chaplain support services to the U.S. Embassy. He then served as a Family Life Chaplain where he provided Marriage and Family counseling for deployed Soldiers and their families. He also taught and trained other Chaplains in counseling skills. He retired from the Army in 2013.
